Rare Charles II period gunmetal standard measure with engraved feather decoration* and dated 1663. Two exchequer chequerboard marks to rim with two crowned “CR” marks. In excellent condition, with unpolished medium-dark brown original surface patina. Capacity is 20.24 fl oz. 4¼” tall, with mouth and base diameters of 4⅜” and 3½”. 1089g weight. * Genealogical research on the armorial device within the mantling on the body, suggests it derives from the family whose aristocratic titles included the Barons Ossulton and Earls of Tankerville. The armorial device is a scaling ladder, which features in their armorial bearings. So, it is likely the measure was used on their estate at Dawley, Harlington, Middlesex or at a Manorial jurisdiction within their control nearby. REF: P1802
