Very rare 18th century brass desk stand with candleholders c1740-70. No maker's mark so origin is speculative, and could come from any one of several countries in Western Europe. An exceptional and very rare item incorporating a pair of candleholders. The quatrefoil shaped base with scalloped edges has raised beaded edge outlines to locate the four pots. One pot has the original glass inkwell, one is a penholder, one has an inner pierced cover for pounce (extreme right of upper photo to the right), and the third is a storage pot. The central handle and candleholders all unscrew from the base. 7" wide and 6½" deep by 8" tall. In outstanding condition. REF: P1716
