½-pint pewter reinforced rim measure, which although unmarked is almost certainly London made c1840-60. No maker's mark. A heavily cast item made for the licensed trade, with a pewter rather than brass reinforced rim. Escutcheon plate to body at upper handle attachment. Circumferentially engraved M Burton Glass Tree? under the base, and "For Measure" to drum front. Verified twice for Middlesex County. In excellent condition, with medium-dark grey original surface patina. Capacity is 10 fl oz. 3½" tall, with 3" base diameter. 349g weight. REF: C3858
