Matched pair of rare lidless English pewter measures with blind hinge lugs. No maker's mark, but possibly from Northern England as their capacities coincide with ones made in the North. Dating is probably late 18th century. The smaller has a large impressed 'C' mark under the base that could be an ownership initial or a later verification mark. In excellent condition, with medium-light grey original surface patina. Provenance: Carl Ricketts collection #3610. 'Gill' (capacity is 3.8 fl oz) is 3⅛" overall height, and 2⅞" to rim, with base diameter of 2⅛"; 147g weight. '½-pint' (capacity is 7.5 fl oz) is 3⅞" overall height, and 3½" to rim, with base diameter of 2⅝"; 265g weight. REF: C3610
