Pre-Imperial quart English pewter mug by I*A his pot touch struck in the base. I*A is either John Alderson of London 1764-92, his widow or a successor. ‘C’ handle with a spatulate attention terminal with U-shaped escutcheon to upper attachment point. Tapered body with simple cast reeded base, and a narrow single low fillet. Imperial period verification marks for City of Westminster, and one of the marks used by Inspectors of Dorset County c1830-35. Provenance: formerly in the collections of the late Gordon Deming, and Ken Goldberg. In excellent condition, with light-grey original surface patina. Capacity is 40 fl oz. 6” high, with 4¼” mouth and 5” base diameters. REF: P216
