YScarce French pewter spirits measure by Robert Toussant Baillard, Rouen who became a master pewterer in 1743. A substantial part of his mark of a crowned lion rampant with his initials is visible struck to rear right side of lid. Probable ownership initials P B to front of lid. A lidded baluster measure with the typical features of the Rouen form: wedge on lid in front of bar thumbpiece, solid strap handle with scroll terminal, and paired incised lines to body and foot. In excellent condition, with one minor ding to edge of foot. Capacity is 122ml. 4¾" overall height and 4" to rim, with 2⅛" diameter base. 274g weight. This is the tallest measure in the group photo of three Rouen measures, all of which are sold.  REF: C3761a
