Two 13th century English base metal pilgrim tokens

Two marvellous examples of the rare series of English base metal pilgrim tokens dating from c1200-50. The upper token has a twin-headed bird, and on the reverse a heraldic shield design. The lower is more commonplace having a heraldic shield as the main subject with a simple geometric pattern to the reverse. Both are ⅝” diameter, and in superb and crisp excavated condition. For an excellent article on this subject, see Spring 1995 Journal Pewter Society pp22-28, a copy of which I shall send to the buyer of these tokens. REF: C3243
