Very rare American pewter beaker cup possibly by Thomas Wildes 1829-40


Very rare unmarked American pewter beaker cup probably made in Philadelphia or New York possibly by Thomas Wildes. The beaker body with solid scroll handle with plain terminal. Slightly raised foot and two low and two high incised lines. Owner’s initials ‘W’ over ‘S * A’ to left of handle. Very distinctively, the body of this cup is hammered all over. Mel Wolf shows an identical example without the hammering marked by Thomas Wildes at Fig 85 in An American Pewter Collection. In excellent condition, with medium-grey original surface patina. Capacity is 6.75 fl oz. 2⅞” tall, with 2¾”mouth and 2⅛” base diameters. REF: P691
