Very rare French pewter spirits measure by Robert Toussant Baillard, Rouen who became a master pewterer in 1743. A substantial part of his mark of a crowned lion rampant with his initials is visible struck to rear right side of lid. A probable verification mark MN to front of lid. A lidded baluster measure with the typical features of the Rouen form: wedge on lid in front of bar thumbpiece, solid strap handle with scroll terminal, and paired incised lines to body and a single line to foot. In excellent condition, with one minor ding to edge of foot. Capacity is 34ml. 3⅛" overall height and 2½" to rim, with 1⅝" diameter base; maker's mark + MN verification mark to lid. 146g weight.
